1.5 Degrees of Peace

A feature documentary in production

  • 1.5 Degrees of Peace is a character-driven feature documentary. The film uncovers the links between conflict, militarization, and climate change, by following the unfolding stories of youth in regions hard-hit by the impact of these intersecting threats.

The bold frontline actions of our young leaders will be juxtaposed by the more personal moments behind-the-scenes, in their communities. The film contrasts the challenges of young leaders in their struggle for environmental justice and demilitarization with the joy, community, and visionary solutions that exist within these movements. These elements will be stitched together seamlessly to create an immersive sense of what it’s like to be a youth activist during these times of unfolding emergencies.

Through a personal and intimate glimpse into the lives of those daring to dream of solutions, we will see what a world that works could look like.

  • The Sunrise Storyteller is Kasha Sequoia Slavner’s directorial debut. As a concerned high school student, disillusioned and outraged by the negativity and powerlessness she felt as a consumer of mainstream media, Kasha was compelled to find an alternative narrative.

On her 16th birthday, on an ambitious mission to travel the world for six months with her mom, camera in hand and no clear roadmap, she found herself intersecting with the lives of people determined to rise above adversity. The film is told through the eyes of a teenager, in search of what it means to be a global citizen. It exposes us to stories of people in the global community, making a difference despite all odds, serving as beacons of hope, empowering others to take action.

Her epic journey through South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Thailand introduced us to trailblazers finding sustainable and creative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues like; access to education, economic empowerment, women’s rights, and peace.
